How did I get here? I was only cruising the Internet to see what courses were out there. Now I have to think about how we come across to our students, whether we acknowledge them as learners. Now I have to think about who I am. What kind of authority gives me legitimacy? My credentials? My age (gasp) or gender? My role in the educational bureaucracy? I am a department chair and former associate academic dean at a college which encourages applications from first-generation college students.
